Take the Bait

Deep-sea sport fishing in Virgin Islands waters is among the world’s best — witness the 1977 world record set here for blue marlin [a 1,282 pounder reeled in off St. Thomas]. Our various tournaments attract the world’s top game fishing enthusiasts each year. Marlin, tuna, kingfish, dolphin, mackerel and Wahoo are top catches. The fish are waiting year ’round, and most local captain’s head to the drop-off just north of the British Virgin Islands to find them. You don’t have to be an experienced angler to have a good chance at a great catch, by the way. With the expert assistance of captain and crew, even first-timers have been known to bring back more than stories about the ones that got away.

JOST VAN DYKE SAIL – Our most popular excursion!

A few words about Jost [yost] Van Dyke:

Seven miles north of St. Thomas, in The British Virgin Islands, lays the peaceful island of Jost Van Dyke. How peaceful is it? There are 150 people, half as many donkeys, and at least that many pelicans. There are four hotel rooms and a half dozen restaurants with island names like Sydney’s Peace and Love, Happy Laury’s, Foxy’s, Ali Baba’s, The Soggy Dollar, and Ivan’s Stress Free Bar. All this on 6 square miles.

When Jimmy Buffet wrote “One Particular Harbor” he had Jost in mind. Other musicians have also discovered the uniqueness of Jost. In the early seventies Mick Jagger and a couple of The Beatles spent a New Year’s Eve at Foxy’s. A tradition was started, and now you’ll find more than two hundred boats at anchor there while their occupants bring in The New Year.

Jost Van Dyke Sail (8:00am to 4:00pm)

This trip is the most unique day sail from the U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s a relaxing, yet adventurous sail to one of the most unspoiled islands in this area of the Caribbean. A true taste of de islands Mon!

Fresh tropical fruits & banana bread are served once underway. We have an open bar consisting of juices, mimosas, bloody marys, soft drinks (diet and regular), beer, bottled water & rum punch.

Don’t forget everyone needs a passport

Jost Catamaran Day sail Cont.

The sail to Jost Van Dyke takes approximately three and a half hours including a one hour snorkel stop at Congo/Lovango Cays. Our first port of call on Jost Van Dyke will be Great Harbour. The captains will clear customs here while guests walk down the beach to Foxy’s for entertainment, and a barbecue lunch buffet at about 11:30 a.m. The people are friendly; the music is of the islands and the ambiance unimaginable. After a brief respite in the hammocks, a swim in the ocean or just hanging out on the beach, it’s back to the boats for a short trip to Ivan’s Stress Free Bar at White Bay.

We arrive at White Bay; one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, at approximately 1:15 p.m. White Bay is a wonderful beach and snorkeling anchorage. Here guests have the option of sunning, swimming, or just lounging under a coconut tree. Most just enjoy floating in the 80+ degree water with a drink in their hand. This is also an ideal beach for an optional TEAM BUILDING EVENT, which will be set up on the beach when the guests arrive. We work with each individual group to customize this activity. This will be a most memorable, fun day!

At about 2:30 p.m. we bid a fond farewell to the island. As Foxy says, “If you don’t leave Mon, you can’t come back!” The sail home is a splendid downwind, down sea spinnaker run. Fruit and cookies are served on the sail back with our very open bar. All vessels will make a brief stop to clear US customs on St. John. Arrival on St. Thomas is approximately 4:30 PM
